Week 17: Aug 20

The start of the school year.  Wooohooo!!!  I have decided to go back to school to get a degree in Respiratory Care.  I am both nervous and excited.  Nervous about going back to school and nervous about trying something completely different then what I have ever done.  But I am also super excited to start a new chapter in my life.

So here's to the start of a new chapter and new school year.  And to all of the fun stuff that I bought to start the journey.

Week 16: Aug 13

I was laid off in May.  I bummed around the house and tried to figure out what to do with my life. After much thinking, and a lot of prayer I decided that I wanted to go back to school to get a degree in the medical field.  So I did what any other 32 year old would do. I moved back in with my parents. :-D   Moving is hard.  Especially when you are moving from a house into a bedroom (the majority of my things are in storage).  These last few weeks have been chaotic but today I reached a milestone. My room is unpacked and everything is organized.  Yippee!!!!

Week 15: August 6

I love DIY projects, as long as they are relatively easy and not time consuming. When I was 19 I received a nice dresser and matching night stand for free.  I think they were made in the 80's (according to the knobs that are on them). Ever since I got the dresser my plan was to replace the knobs and pulls.  Eleven years later and I still have the same knobs and pulls.  I mentioned it to my Mom (who is a go-getter) and we went to Hobby Lobby and bought knobs. Really pretty teal knobs (that match the color scheme of my bedroom) with gold and orange accents. Loving the knobs so much my Mom and I thought it would be fun to buy plain pulls and paint them to match the knobs.  Sounds easy, right?  Well as it turns out it was a little bit more involved then that.  Turns out my draw pulls are 3.25 inches long.  A size that is rare and not really carried in the stores (we checked four stores).  I finally broke down and bought the pulls online.  Once I got them in I thought, yes!!! Now all we have to do it paint them!  I forgot that I really do not like to paint.  Ooops.  We had to 1.) spray two coats of copper finish on them, 2.) paint them teal, 3.) add the gold highlights, 4.) add the gold accent, and 5.) spray with a finish to help them set.  After doing the first 4 steps we found the knobs and pulls to be WAY too shiny.  So we decided to antique them by doing a light layer of black paint and wiping it off.  Knobs and pulls looked much better after this.

My simple DIY project turned into a week long project due to the ordering of pulls and the painting.  But the end result is beautiful and it looks like I have a new dresser.  I even did two extra pulls so that I can replace the pulls on the matching nightstand I have in storage.

So, here are the photos documenting my DIY project.  I am ecstatic about the results and cannot wait for the rest of my bedroom to get done (I'm wanting on a entertainment center so that I can get things out of boxes).

1.) my dresser with the old knobs and pulls

     2.) the new knobs

3.) the pulls were black and we painted them with a copper finish

4.) than we painted the pulls teal to match the knobs

5.) we added the gold accent to the pulls and touched up the gold on the knobs

6.) added orange paint to the pulls and touched up the orange on the knobs

7.) the finished product (accented the design on the dresser in gold to tie everyting together)

Week 14: July 30

The aroma of tea sets my heart singing.  I first found my love for this warm beverage when I was in high school.  For my graduation party I wanted to do a high tea party: complete with scones and lemon curd, tea sandwiches, dainty desserts, and tea.  Lots and lots of tea.  It was a success and my love, or addiction, of tea began.  I have tried all types of tea and continue to try assorted types of tea. Every two years I even try to go to a fancy restaurant that serves high tea.

This week I decided to take photos of a few of my favorites.

Week 13: July 23

Signs, signs, everywhere there are signs!  Walking into any store you will find decorative wall signs.  Some are silly, some are cute, some our spiritual, and some are just funny.  This week's blog is dedicated to signs that I saw and liked.

So, here's your sign!

Week 12: July 16

My Aunt Donna came down from Idaho for a work conference this week.  It was her first time to come to Texas (and in July!)  She asked if I would mind driving her around and showing her some of the sights.  I said no, that it would be fun to do all of the tourist stuff.  Our adventure began!

My sister Khara and I took her to downtown Fort Worth and than to the Stockyards.  Dinner at the Blue Mesa with my brother and his family, and Khara and her husband.  We than went to historical downtown Grapevine for shopping and lunch.  Our last trip was to Southfork Ranch (where the TV show Dallas was filmed) and shopping at Sam Moons followed by dinner at On the Border.  It was a whirlwind trip but great fun!

Here are a few photos highlighting our time together.

Week 11: July 9

Food brings people together.  There is nothing better than cooking a meal for family or friends, or going out to enjoy fellowship at a restaruarnt.

Saying that, I love food.  Maybe a little too much!  I love cooking and I love going out to restaurants.  This week's food blog is dedicated to food.  Form the simplest to the complex.
